Game drives

Part of lake Mburo national park is traversed by the network of game tracks, the quality of game viewing in particular locations is influenced by the season as well as long term vegetative changes. The Kazuma and Ruroko tracks make the best game viewing area in the park. They pass through a landscape with rocky hills.

Traditionally, in the dry season when wildlife congregates around the swamps, drinking holes that are filled and lakes, is usually said to be the best game viewing period. Often along the stretch of lakeside track south of the junction with Kazuma track together with the more southerly Kigambira loop. Though these days the increased dense bush cover near lake has hidden game viewing and it’s also infested with tsetse flies. To the west of Rwonyo starting near Sanga gate, the Rwizi track leads to through the acacia savannah where impalas, elands, and Burchell’s zebra are common. 

Night drives at the park are also usually productive with the chance to find hyenas and the leopard.

Horseback safaris

This was introduced by Mihingo lodge in the east of the park, a first in a Ugandan protected area, and a great opportunity to get close to animals. Animals can be so relaxed with horses than with vehicle. They are an amazing way to watch wildlife and children friendly.
